Last Email?... I think :)

Wow... I can´t believe that I am here writing this email, and thinking about the things that have happened the last two years. Looking back on my mission, I realize that time has gone way too fast. I wish it could last forever. Right now, I am on an emotional roller coaster. I am both happy and sad.

The mission has blessed me more than I can express here in this email. It has changed my heart, mind, and spirit (in other words, EVERYTHING). I am a completely different person than I was before the mission. I am completely better. I still have a long way to go, but the mission has helped me make a lot of progress.

I invite all that are wondering if they should go on a mission... to do it! It will be the very best thing you ever do. It will change the course of your entire life... but more importantly, it will change your eternity.

The gospel is true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Kingdom of God on earth. This I know. Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He died for each one of us, and we can all return to God if we accept his atonement and live his Gospel.

I love you all!!
See you soon ;)

Love: The Essence of the Gospel

Family and Friends,

In the Church, we do all kinds of things. We read our scriptures, we pray, we go to church, we visit others, we do missionary work, we go to the temple, etc... (the list could go on forever). But the question is: Why? Why do we do all of these things? Why should we do all of these things?

Christ was asked a similar question, and to this question he responded:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" (Matt 22:37-40)

Everything that we do should be done because we love God. Absolutely everything. Not only the spiritual things that we do, but also the temporal things that we do. According to President Ezra Taft Benson (who we are studying this year):

"To love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength is all-consuming and all-encompassing. It is no lukewarm endeavor. It is total commitment of our very being—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—to a love of the Lord.
The breadth, depth, and height of this love of God extend into every facet of one's life. Our desires, be they spiritual or temporal, should be rooted in a love of the Lord. Our thoughts and affections should be centered on the Lord." ("The Great Commandment—Love the Lord" Ezra Taft Benson)

Our beloved prophet referred to love as the essence of the gospel ("Love—the Essence of the Gospel" Thomas S. Monson). Really, Everything we do should be done because we love the Lord, and those that surround us. If there is somebody that you are angry at, or that you are having a hard time loving... change. "Pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that [we] may be filled with this love... that [we] may become the sons of God...that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen." (Moroni 7:48).

I testify that this is a true principle. I am striving to love all. It is not easy, but it is definitely worth it. :)

I love you all!

Motorcycle wreak

Funny/scary story: on our way to internet to write, we saw a wreak. A mototaxi and a motorcycle wreaked... it was crazy!

All goes well here in the jungle. We are teaching some new people, and always looking for new people to teach. Bruno is going to be baptized this week, and Salvador will be baptized the next week. The work goes as well as always! Elder Augat is doing great, and adapting to the mission very well.

It is hard to think about the fact that the mission is almost over. I am kind of on an emotional roller coaster right now. Sometimes I am super excited, and sometimes I am super sad. But I will be alright. The mission is the most incredible thing that I have ever done. I am so grateful that I have had the wonderful opportunity to be here. All that have served a mission before are definitely aware of how I feel right now. It is a little strange.

I love you all!!

Scriptures, Doctrine of Christ.

Wow, Time really is slipping away. It feels like yesterday that I recently came on the mission...  Elder Augat and I are having a wonderful experience, and we are constantly learning more and progressing.

Update on Salvador (our ex-drunk investigator): Salvador Is progressing incredibly!! He has a baptism date programmed for the 14 of Feb. He really is miracle, and an example to all, everywhere, that the Gospel can change lives and people. I love this Gospel SOOO much!!

I am almost done with the Old Testament! I set a goal early in my mission to read the entire standard works as a missionary, and the Old Testament is the last one. I am right on schedule! I love the scriptures so much!! they really do testify of God and Jesus Christ. They teach us of their true character, and teach us how to become more like them. I invite you all to deeply engulf yourselves in the scriptures each day. Read them with true purpose, and put in practice what you learn. It will change your life! You will feel your faith strengthen, and feel the urge to more closely follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As a mission, we´ve been focusing on the Gospel and Doctrine of Jesus Christ (faith, repentance, baptism [covenants], the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end). It is really incredible how each of these principles (and ordinances) can become such an important part of our lives. Each one can become part of who we are... or at least part of who we are becoming. The Gospel of Jesus Christ really is just becoming like him (read 2 Nephi 31, which talks about the doctrine of Christ, and notice how many times it says the word "follow" referring to following Christ).

I love you all!!

Drunk -> Sober -> Investigator

This week has been good. Elder Augat and I are working hard, and enjoying missionary work like never before! We are learning how to be more efficient and effective in missionary work. There are many people that are progressing and learning and coming into the church.

I would like to share an incredible experience that we have had. Here in Puerto Maldonado there are many drunks. One of them in particular always liked to stop us on the street and talk to us. At first, I was super annoyed (actually I am still kind of annoyed when drunks stop us), but once the thought cam to my head that when Christ was here on earth, he searched for the sinners, and publicans. So, we decided to talk to him... or in other words just be nice to him. Every time we passed by, we would say "hi", and every time he wanted to talk, we would talk for a minute or two. We did that for a few weeks, and then he disappeared for another few. We didn´t know what happened to him. Then, Last week we saw him again... but he had changed. He was in a clean shirt, shaven, and sober!! We went and talked to him, and he remembered us and said that he would like to talk to us. After talking with him for a good hour, hermano Salvador accepted the invitation to be baptized in the true church of God. We still have to teach him and prepare him a lot, but I know that ALL people can be blessed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I love you all!!

I have been thinking and feeling a lot of mixed emotions as I enter into the last transfer of my mission. I am so excited to be here in Peru, and to be here in Puerto Maldonado with Elder Augat. I am so excited to work with all my heart, might, mind, and strength in the work of the Lord. There are many great people here in Puerto Maldonado, and the Gospel is thriving.

I have been learning a lot lately, as I strive to follow the spirit better. I know that the only way we can do this work the lord`s way is through his spirit. I am almost done with the standard works, which was a goal that I put a while ago. I am learning so much as I have studied all of the sacred scriptures. I know that there is power in the words of the lord. The members of the Church as a whole don`t understand the importance of daily scripture study, and the power that can come into the lives of each of us as we read these sacred words. I feel that I am becoming the missionary that God has Always wanted me to be. It is amazing!!

I love you All!! I invite you all to dedicate yourselves more fully to the lord... "offer your whole souls as an offering unto him" Omni 1:26

All is Well

Hello All!

All is well here in Puerto Maldonado. Elder Augat and I are working hard, and the work is progressing very well. It is always fun to be with a new missionary, because they are always so excited about the work. We have a lot of great investigators and less-actives. Next transfer, my last... should be a great transfer with a lot of success. I love the work soooo much!!!

I love you all!!
