New Companion

Family and Friends!

Well, This week has basically been a normal missionary week. I received a new companion here in Izcuchaca. His name is Elder Mazariegos (a little hard to pronounce). He is from Guatemala (Martha, I thought you might appreciate that), and he has 21 months in the mission. He will finish in 3 months... wow. He seems like a good guy, and I am sure I´ll come to know him well in the next few weeks. With Him, I am having a better Companionship study than I´ve had in my entire mission. So, thats really good.

The work continues here in Izcuchaca! I love every moment of it :)!

I´ll send photos next week.

BUSY week.

Family and Friends,

Wow, This was a Crazy and busy week. I am just going to talk about a few of the major events that happened.

Baptism of Stefany
I had my first (official) Baptism this week!! I know that is a little confusing, but in Sicuani Percy and Soledad were baptized (see my email from May 27). But the thing is that they weren´t really my investigators. They were Investigators of elder Neff and Elder Calderón. I just happened to teach them a few times. But Stefany was the first investigator that I actually taught from the start. She was a reference from Kevin (a recent convert), and she progressed really fast. She is really converted to the Gospel and has a great testimony. (See Pictures at end of email).

Elder Russell M. Nelson Comes to Cusco
I don´t know how we get so lucky here in Cusco, but Russell M. Nelson came and had a devotional with all of the members in the Stakes of Cusco, Inti-Raymi, and Sicuani. Just like 2 Months ago, Quentin L. Cook Came. Maybe the Apostels just like visiting Machu Picchu, and come for that. I don´t know. There were more than 2,000 members that came. That made me happy, because it shows the faith of the members here in Cusco.

He said a lot of cool things, and I learned a lot. The coolest thing that happened is that he gave his whole talk in English (with a translator), and then to end he said:
"I feel impressed to speak to you in your native tongue."
He then bore his testimony and gave an Apostolic Blessing in PERFECT Spanish. I don´t know if he actually knows Spanish, or if he spake in tongues, but in any way, it was a cool experience. The spirit was super strong.

Good News!!
I weighed myself today! When I left the MTC, I weighed 111 Kilograms (I won´t tell you how many pounds that is because it is embarrassing). Today, I weighed myself, and I weigh 90 Kilograms. That means that I lost 21 Kilograms or 46 Pounds. I still have a long way to go, but I´m getting better! I will attach a photo from the MTC, and from now so that you can see the difference.

Love you All!!

The Work of Salvation

Family and Friends:

Here in the Mission Perú Cusco, we aren´t allowed to say "Missionary Work." We say, "The Work of Salvation." I´m sure that you´ve all heard about the Work of Salvation, but what does is mean? Why? Let me Explain.

The Phrase "Missionary Work" gives the feeling that the missionaries have a work, and the members have another work. But that is not the case. We ALL are part of the "Work of Salvation."

"For behold, this is my  work and my  glory—to bring to pass the  immortality and  eternal life of man."

God´s Work and Glory is... "The Work of Salvation." and now, he is inviting us to join him in his work. How great is that?!!!! We Have been promised that if we bring one soul unto him (Save a soul...Salvation), we will have joy (D&C 18:15-16). So, Lets get to it! Lets get to work!

It is also important to note that the work of Salvation doesn´t only include people who aren´t members. It starts in the Home, our families, then it spreads to every creature (Mosiah 28:3). This also includes people who´ve already died.

The work of Salvation goes well here in Perú! We are working hard, and having success.

I love you All!!!

Dear Family,

This week was fun because I was able to see a lot of traditions of Perú. For you, this week was Halloween. Here in Perú it was the Day of the Dead and The Day of the Living. Everyone went to the cemetery and cleaned the graves of their dead. It is almost like Memorial day in the States. The weirdest thing that I saw was that there were Priests (I won´t tell you what religion they were from, but I´m sure you can guess) that offered to recite prayers over a grave, but they Charged!! They charged money to say a prayer!!! It made me think of 1 Nephi 22:23

For the time speedily shall come that all churches which are built up to get gain, and all those who are built up to get power over the flesh, and those who are built up to become popular in the eyes of the world, and those who seek the lusts of the flesh and the things of the world, and to do all manner of iniquity; yea, in fine, all those who belong to the kingdom of the devil are they who need fear, and tremble, and quake; they are those who must be brought low in the dust; they are those who must be consumed as stubble; and this is according to the words of the prophet.

Sorry, I know that that scripture is a little strong, but That is what I thought of. :)

Kevin, a Young man in our ward gave us the reference of his Girlfriend, and she is progressing fast! We challenged her to get baptized the 16 of November, and she Accepted! References are awesome! Give them to the local Elders!

I love you All So Much!!
