The Blessings of God are all around us.

Family and Friends,

I hope that I can convey through this email the feelings that I have felt in this Past Week.

First of All, I would like to say that this past week has been one of the hardest weeks of my mission, if not, the hardest week of my Life. We are opening a sector which means a lot of Contacting (knocking on doors). I have been working harder than ever before, but have had less success than ever before also. We are trying super hard, and are having no success. All of the Returned Missionaries, and Jeremy will understand how that feels.

On top of that, I have been sick, and have had a really hard time breathing this entire week.

I don´t tell you these things to make you feel sorry for me. I just want to illustrate a Principle that I have learned. When we are at our weakest moments The Lord Blesses us. It is when we are humble, and teachable that he decides to teach and strengthen us (see D&C Section 121).

It was during this time when I was feeling sorry for myself that I received what I consider a revelation from God. I was sitting on my bed while my companion was taking a shower and thinking: "Why me? Why can´t we just have more success? Why can´t the people accept us? Why can´t I feel better? Why can´t it be easier? Why can´t a speak the language better?" Then all of the sudden a memory from the night before popped into my head.

We were talking to some members of the Ward, and getting to know them, and I could understand EVERY word! I didn´t even have to translate what they were saying in my head, but I just understood perfectly as they were talking.

At this moment the thought came into my head: "I may not be able to talk perfectly, but I CAN Understand almost perfectly." I realized that The Lord had literally blessed me with the Gift of Interpretation of Tongues. Before, I had been so preoccupied with the fact that I can´t talk that I didn´t even realize this great blessing that was right in front of my face.

After this experience, I got on my knees and thanked my Father in Heaven for the many blessings in my life. I now "Count my Blessings" every day in my Missionary Planner. I would like to just share a few with you.
  1. We were talking to a member and we shared with them Mosiah 2:41 (Which talks about how those who keep the commandments are blessed). We then asked them in what ways they have seen blessings in their lives since they´ve been members. The Sister then wen´t on to list all of the many blessings. Since they´ve been baptized, her husband has NEVER lacked work. They have always been able to provide for their family. Because they read the book of mormon as a Family, They can ALL read. She explained that before the missionaries talked to them, that the entire family was illiterate. But the missionaries taught them to read, and now the entire family can read and write. She wen´t on and on about the blessings that the Lord has given them. This was a huge testimony builder for me.
  2. The Bishop of our ward taught a lesson on tithing Yesterday (Sunday), and he taught me a lot about the blessings of the Lord. He said that growing up, his family was Always super poor. He said that breakfast every morning was a half a slice of bread, and that they would always ask their Dad for a whole slice, but they just didn´t have the money. He said that His Dad ALWAYS payed tithing, and that as a kid he often wondered why God wasn´t blessing his family. But He told us that Now, many years later, and after his dad had pasted away, ALL of his sons were well off. The bishops family is rich for the standards of peru, and so is his brother who is the Stake President.
Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don't come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come.

     3. The third experience happened last night. My companion and I were knocking doors, like always, and a young man (22) answered the door. He Invited us in. We learned that he was studying to become a teacher, and that he loved to learn, and that is why he invited us in. It turned out, that he was super prepared for the Gospel, and that he is super excited to attend church and learn more.

There are blessings all around us! Look for them. Search for them. God WANTS to bless us, and he is all of the time.

I love you all!

Elder Jacob Harmon
